The M-Course
Form details the course requirements for Writing in the Major
[M] status.
Coordinating Faculty Efforts Involving M-Courses
Under the auspices of the All-University Writing Committee, the WID Program facilitates the development and review of Writing in the Major [M] courses. By making writing assignments central to the work of the course and emphasizing revision processes, an M-Course helps students explore both the knowledge of a particular discipline and the discourse conventions used within the discipline to create and share that knowledge.
M-Course Review
The WSU Writing Program aids in the development and manages the review of more than 300 writing-intensive courses across the disciplines. This presents challenges as well as opportunities to share examples of best practice in course design.
The WSU Writing Program partnered with the RiCH Company to design a completely customized, Web-based software solution that gets us around platform compatibility barriers and generates email notifications to help us manage workflow.
Faculty members upload syllabi, reviewers annotate them, and then users can run searches based on annotations, including those designating best practice in course design.
The new M-Course review site can be found at www.wsumcourse.com. Here, you will also find the handbook created to assist faculty in uploading their syllabi.
Faculty Development Workshops
The WID Program hosts faculty development workshops throughout the academic year, providing a conduit for an ongoing exchange of ideas about the teaching of writing among faculty and writing instruction experts from the three units of the WSU Writing Program. In addition, individual faculty consultation sessions regarding assigning and evaluating writing are available.
